****24 hour notice****
this is the 24 hour notice for the registration of Durham 4×4’s newbie run registration will open Monday June 5th at 5 pm on the website.
the newbie run is meant for members new to the sport that are interested in getting a basic knowledge of the sport including techniques, recovery gear, vehicle limitations, treading lightly and much more.
the day will start off with a talk about all the topics mentioned above and where questions can be asked in a pressure free environment to help make your understanding and adventure that much more enjoyable.
following the talk the group will be heading out to a basic stock friendly trail where you can put your new knowledge to use.
this is an all day event please pack accordingly with lunch, bug spray, sunblock, water and whatever else you might need
The reason for this post is the status of our may 6th run
It is with great regret, but due to worsening weather/trail conditions we are in fact going to be canceling all runs for the day as many of you have already speculated. We wanted to wait as long as possible to cancel because many of our members have been patiently waiting the start of the season.
Dispite all of our prayers and rain dances it has continued to rain 🙁. With flooding in many areas including Minden we have contacted Minden and have let them know that we are making ourselves available to assist in any way they might need to try to give back to the community.
We will be attempting to reschedule these runs at a later date and give people already registered priority signup, the details are still tbd.
Thanks for your understanding,

This year Durham 4×4 has chosen to support the rose of Durham charity, it seemed fitting to support them, being local charity.
Rose of Durham provides over 15 free programs and a multitude of services including, counselling, and community referrals at no cost. Our goal is to provide young parents with the tools needed to build secure relationships with their children, which leads to optimal infant mental health, that secures development in all areas of life from future mental health, physical health, emotional stability, resilience, school readiness and performance and their own ability to form secure, safe and lasting relationships of their own.
Our work is founded in the server and return theory of attachment, research shows that secure attachment is the single most protective factor against future mental illness, we all need to be investing in that.
Did you know that 50% of our funding comes from a main funder, with the express purpose of covering administrative and overhead costs? Why is this relevant to you the donor? Well it means every dollar raised through fundraising and private donations is used to provide direct services to the people that we serve, that means every dollar you donate is changing lives two at a time. That’s a great return on investment.
“If a community values its children it will cherish their mothers” BOWLBY

Just a reminder to all paid members , if you have not picked up your membership package already come out to one of our weekly coffee meets to get yours!
Well I hope many of you have had the opportunity to hit the trails. I’ve been very fortunate in going out every weekend with a lot of wonderful people. It’s so great to be able to get out and enjoy nature and have a lot of fun doing it.
Many of my non-wheeling friends have often wondered why I would take my beautiful jeep and go where they would or could not, then coming back covered in mud, more scratches, and even minor repairs, hopefully.
Why do we do what we do? Let’s think about this. Well how about the challenge of enjoying what nature puts in our path whether it’s a mountain of rock, rock gardens, rivers of thick mud, deep water crossings, or stinky marsh and succeeding. The rush of the triumph is so worth it. Having other wheeling buddies around only enhances the enjoyment.
There’s always the beauty of nature to enjoy, whether it is groves of Trilliums, the unique rock formations that were formed during the great ice age, the various wildlife carefully hidden, but watching our progress, or the awakening of the forest as summer approaches.
Of course there is the negative side as with anything so wonderful, the bugs, especially those pesky black flies that tend to like to invade every orifice of our upper body. Then we have the hoards of mosquitoes that don’t have any consideration for the lower anatomy while relieving ourselves in the bush. Raspberry canes, though not bugs, can leave nasty scratches and welts when trying to find that perfect, secluded spot!
After having wheeled for several years, I have never lost the thrill of the challenge and I’m getting a great deal of enjoyment in watching new people learn what they and their rigs are capable of achieving, in a safe and friendly way.
I’m 65 with 2 knee and shoulder replacements that limit me in my various once loved activities . Thank goodness this is not one of them. I will wheel as long as I can. That is why I wheel.
Hope to see many of you out on the trails. Cheers, Jeep Mom

New Board Members!
march 24th 2016
As my first duty as the new secretary of Durham 4×4, I would like to thank Chris and Terry of Performance for opening up their great shop for us and supplying us with all kinds of food and beverages for our AGM. It was very generous of you guys to make us feel so welcome!!!Thank you!!!
Thank you also to the many members who came out tonight to show their appreciation to Adam, Alison, and Stirling for all of their hard work for the club and to meet the new Board members.
Everyone had a wonderful time mingling, reconnecting with old friends and meeting new ones.
Adam Sinclair introduced Michael Lymberis, our new president, who welcomed everyone and thanked Adam Sinclair, Stirling Mcleister, and Alison McLeister for their hard work and devotion to our club. He then enthusiastically described the many ideas of events he would like to propose to the Board and club.
Adam then introduced:
We are looking forward to an awesome year of wheeling and other fun activities.
The evening was so enjoyable that no one realized the time. Finally at 10pm, we guiltily left to allow poor Chris to close shop and go home.
Hope everyone got home safely!
